If you have a question about buying a report, understanding your results, or anything else, we are here to help. Get in touch, and our friendly team will guide you with clear support from start to finish.
To use live chat, click the chat icon in the bottom right corner of the page. Share your email address, the subject of your enquiry, and the details of your complaint, and we will forward it to the appropriate team member. Our team will contact you by email as soon as possible.
If you think a result in your report is wrong, email us with your report reference number and a short explanation of the issue. If you are querying mileage, include a clear photo of the current odometer and the latest V5C logbook. If you are querying finance or write-off status, include any supporting documents you have, such as a settlement letter, a recent invoice, or insurer paperwork, and we will review them and come back to you to explain your options.
If something on your report appears incorrect, it reflects the official record we receive from our data sources. We cannot change DVLA data ourselves, because we only show what DVLA and other sources currently hold.
If the DVLA has incorrect vehicle or V5C details, you will need to update them with the DVLA directly so the record is corrected at the source. Once DVLA updates the V5C record, the corrected details should appear in future checks after the records are updated. Use the official GOV.UK guidance for changing vehicle details on a V5C registration certificate.
If you run a car dealership or need bulk vehicle checks, we would be pleased to speak with you about working together. We support trade customers across the UK with reliable data and flexible account options. Please contact us at contact@mycarregcheck.co.uk.
Plate changes do not always show up straight away. In most cases, My Car Reg Check will pick up the update within around two weeks. If it was changed very recently, try again later or contact us with the details.
Yes. If your payment went through, My Car Reg Check can resend your report. Email our support team with the vehicle registration and, if you have it, your report reference number.
Do not buy the vehicle until the finance is fully cleared and confirmed. Ask the seller for proof from the finance company, and make sure the details match the vehicle you are considering.
How does your data guarantee work, and what does it cover?
My Car Reg Check reports are backed by a data guarantee on key results shown at the time you ran the check. It is there to give you peace of mind if covered information is missing or incorrect. If you think something is wrong, contact us with your registration and report reference.
I can’t remember my password. How do I reset it?
Go to the login page and choose the forgot password option. Enter your email address, and we will send you a reset link. If nothing arrives, check your junk and spam folders or contact My Car Reg Check.
Once I purchase, how quickly will my report be available?
In most cases, your report is ready within minutes after payment is confirmed. If it takes longer, it may be due to a slow response from one of our data sources. If you are still waiting, message My Car Reg Check, and we will help you find it.
If I check the same vehicle again later, do I have to pay a second time?
Usually, yes. A new check pulls fresh data from paid sources, so it counts as a new purchase. Your original paid report still stays available to you.
After finance is settled, how long until it shows as cleared on a report?
It can take up to three working days for a finance marker to update after the lender clears it. If it still shows after that, get in touch, and we will look into it for you.
What could cause a VRM I entered to be rejected or not return results?
A report will only load if the registration is linked to a vehicle on the DVLA system. In rare cases, a plate can be on retention and not tied to any vehicle.
Most issues are simple input mistakes, especially mixing up the letter O and the number 0, or using a plate that does not match the usual format, like AB12 CDE. If it still will not work, email us, and we will help you check it.
Why didn’t my Full Check include a vehicle valuation?
A valuation may be missing if the pricing data is not available for that exact vehicle, or the details do not match well enough to return a result. This can happen with very new models, imports, or vehicles with unusual specifications. Contact My Car Reg Check with the registration, and we will take a look.
General service questions
Why do your reports only show part of the vehicle’s VIN rather than the full number?
Every vehicle has a 17-digit VIN, which is its unique ID. My Car Reg Check can only show the last 4 digits because the DVLA limits what can be shared to help reduce fraud.
My VIN check doesn’t match the registration. Does that mean the vehicle is stolen?
A mismatch means the plates do not match DVLA records for that vehicle, but it does not always mean it is recorded as stolen. First, check for typing errors, then consider whether a plate transfer may have happened recently. If you are sure it is a mismatch, do not buy the vehicle, and if you already own it, report it to the police on 101.
What common problems or hidden risks should I watch for when buying a used vehicle?
The biggest problems are outstanding finance, a past write-off, or a stolen marker. Check the MOT history for recurring faults, big mileage jumps, or long gaps that do not make sense. Also, compare the registration, VIN details, and the V5C logbook, and walk away if anything does not match.
What details and checks are included in a My Car Reg Check report?
You can see what is included by running a free check on our home page using your VRM. Our Pricing page shows the difference between the Standard Check and the Full Check. You can also view our sample report to see what each section means.
What do I gain by creating an account with My Car Reg Check?
Creating an account lets you keep all your paid reports in one place, so you can find them again without searching your emails. It also helps our support team locate your report faster if you contact us. This is useful if you are checking a few cars before you decide.
Which check should I choose if I’m about to buy a used car?
If you are ready to buy, choose the Full Check because it covers the main risks, including outstanding finance. Use the Standard Check when you are still shortlisting and want a quick overview.
Where can I look up definitions for the terms and fields shown in the report?
Use the glossary on the My Car Reg Check website to see plain-English explanations of each section. You can also look at our sample report to understand how the fields are used. If anything still looks unclear, message us with the report reference, and we will explain it.
What are the key differences between Standard and Full checks?
The Standard Check covers MOT history, valuation, and key status checks, such as scrapped and exported. The Full Check includes everything in Standard, plus the bigger risk checks like outstanding finance, write-off, and stolen markers, along with many more data points. If you are about to buy a used car, the Full Check gives you the clearest picture.
When is a Standard Check the right option?
Go for a Standard Check when you are still comparing a few cars, and you want a quick overview of what you are dealing with. It covers MOT history, a valuation, and flags like scrapped or exported. It is a good way to narrow down your shortlist before you spend more.
When should I choose a Full Check instead?
Pick a Full Check when you are close to buying, or you have already viewed the car and want more certainty. It includes the higher-risk checks, such as outstanding finance, write-off, and stolen markers, plus many extra data checks. This is the safer choice before you hand over money.
If I’m buying from a dealer or retailer, do I still need to run a My Car Reg Check?
Yes, it is still worth doing. A dealer can be honest and reputable, but a report gives you an extra layer of reassurance before you pay. It also helps you ask them the right questions if anything needs explaining.
Can you run checks for vehicles registered in Northern Ireland?
Yes. My Car Reg Check supports vehicles registered in Northern Ireland, as well as across the rest of the UK. Enter the registration number as normal to get started.
Besides a history check, what other checks should I do before buying a used vehicle?
Always check out the car in person and take it for a real test drive. Check the V5C logbook and service history, and ensure that the VIN and registration information match the vehicle. If you are spending a lot on an expensive car, an independent inspection with the help of a trustworthy garage or mechanic can be money well spent.
Do your checks work for vehicles registered in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man?
Not at the moment. My Car Reg Check works for vehicles registered in the UK and Northern Ireland. We cannot return results for registrations from the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
What mileage information is included in your mileage checks?
We show recorded mileage readings from key points such as MOT tests and other trusted data sources. The report highlights the dates and mileages, so you can spot gaps, drops, or jumps in mileage that do not look right. If something seems unusual, it is worth asking the seller for an explanation and proof.
How do you calculate the real-world driving costs shown in your reports?
We use the vehicle’s fuel type, engine details, and official consumption figures to produce an estimated running cost. It is there to help you compare one car with another, rather than give a perfect personalised figure. Your actual costs of driving will depend on fuel prices, your routes, and how you drive.
