Our £10,000 Data Guarantee: Buy Your Next Car with Total Confidence

Buying a used car can feel like a big leap of faith. The car may look right, drive well, and be sold by someone who seems honest and friendly, but there can still be hidden problems that are hard to spot on your own. That’s where the £10,000 Data Guarantee available with eligible checks can give you extra peace of mind.

When you run an eligible vehicle check with My Car Reg Check before you buy, you are not just getting a report. You may get added protection if qualifying third-party data included in your report turns out to be wrong or missing, and that mistake leaves you out of pocket. As with any guarantee, this is subject to our Guarantee Terms & Conditions.

For example, imagine finding a car you love from a private seller. The price seems fair, the advert looks genuine, and the test drive goes smoothly. A car history check gives you a clearer view of what is really behind the registration, so you can make your decision with your eyes open.

The guarantee is there to support careful buyers who complete the right checks before handing over their money. Before you buy, we always recommend checking the report against the V5C logbook, confirming the VIN on the car, asking questions if anything does not match, and keeping a signed receipt from the seller.

We know buying a used car is a big decision. Our job is to help you feel more informed, more protected, and more confident before you say ‘yes.’

What is the My Car Reg Check Data Guarantee?

Our Data Guarantee is there to give you extra reassurance when you buy a used car. If the qualifying information in your paid vehicle check turns out to be wrong or missing, and you lose money because of it, the guarantee may help protect you.

We check trusted sources such as the DVLA, police records, and finance houses, but even the best data can sometimes be delayed or incomplete at the source. Consider the guarantee as a safety net for those rare cases, allowing you to make your next car purchase with greater confidence and less worry.

Our role as a data aggregator

We bring together vehicle information from trusted third-party sources such as the DVLA, Experian, the Police National Computer, MIAFTR, and finance houses. We combine this data into one clear report so you can make a better-informed decision before buying.

However, we do not create or control the original records, and we cannot change them ourselves. If something appears to be wrong, we can help you understand what may have happened and point you towards the right organisation to query or correct the record.

What’s Covered Under the £10,000 Protection?

The £10,000 protection may apply to serious qualifying issues that every used car buyer hopes they never face. These are the serious hidden issues that can cost you money even when the car looked fine, the seller seemed honest, and the test drive went smoothly.

You may be protected if your eligible paid report showed the vehicle as clear, but later it turns out there was a qualifying issue, such as:

Outstanding finance

The report showed the car as finance clear, but it later came to light that money was still owed on it. In some cases, the finance company may try to recover the vehicle.

Stolen vehicle records

The car was already recorded as stolen before your check, but this did not appear in the report. If the police later seize the vehicle, you could be left without the car and out of pocket.

Insurance write-off history

The vehicle had previously been written off as a total loss (Category S, N, C, or D), but this was not shown in the report. This can affect the car’s value, safety, insurance, and resale appeal.

Mileage fraud

The car had been clocked or had a mileage issue that should have appeared in the qualifying data, but it was not flagged. That could mean you paid more than the vehicle was really worth.

These are not small details. They are the kinds of issues that can turn a good-looking deal into an expensive mistake, which is why the guarantee gives careful buyers an added layer of protection before they commit.

How This Works

The £10,000 Data Guarantee is designed for buyers who check the vehicle before they commit to buying it. To stay eligible, the order matters: run the eligible paid check first, review the details carefully, then decide whether to go ahead with the purchase.

Here’s how to protect yourself from the start:

Check the car before you pay.

Run your vehicle history check before paying a deposit, signing paperwork, collecting the car, or agreeing to buy. The guarantee is there to support careful buyers who check first, not after a problem has already appeared.

Make sure the details match.

Compare the report with the vehicle and its paperwork. Check the registration, VIN/chassis number, make, model, colour, and mileage where shown. The VIN should match the car, the report, and the V5C logbook.

Be careful with the seller.

If you are buying privately, check that the seller is the registered keeper and that the address matches the V5C. If you are buying from a registered motor dealer, make sure the invoice clearly shows the dealer's details, vehicle details, sale date, and amount paid.

Keep proof of the sale.

Save your report, receipt, invoice, payment record, and any messages with the seller. A signed receipt is especially useful if it includes the sale date, price paid, mileage, registration, seller’s name and address, and the VIN, where possible.

If you later believe there is a qualifying issue, contact us with your report, purchase receipt, vehicle details, and any supporting evidence. We can help review the information and guide you on the next steps, including where the issue may need to be raised with the relevant data provider or record holder.

The safest rule is simple: check before you buy, compare everything carefully, keep your paperwork, and do not ignore anything that does not match.

  • Disclaimer: Please remember that vehicle history data comes from third-party sources. We work to present this information clearly and accurately, but we do not create or control the original records. The £10,000 Data Guarantee is subject to the relevant provider’s terms, eligibility rules, exclusions, and claim process.
